What are we saying? In a world overrun by words and images, there is a profound importance in recognizing what we say to ourselves and what we see ourselves as. In the blog post, I want to talk about the timeless significance of oral and visual storytelling and the depth that a well-crafted narrative brings to our lives.
Words are undoubtedly powerful. They can lift us up or sometimes fall short of capturing the raw and unspoken emotions that define our human experience. Pictures preserve the nuances of joy, sorrow, suffering, love and resilience. The subtle expressions of light and shadow seem to work together to create a deep weave of emotions that resonate far beyond the limitations of language.
If words and images hold immense power, then why not feast upon narratives that empower and expedite our desires?
Our lips, and by extension, what comes out of them, have the remarkable ability to transcend cultural and linguistic barriers. Our lips speak a universal language that in each culture and cross-culturally says something about our ancient origins and ancestry. They are the stunning landscapes of our faces, candid because they, without protection, face the weather and all elements. Lips are our visual medium that communicates in a way that invites everyone to partake in our narrative, fostering a sense of humanity.
Our lips offer a moment of respite - a visual pause that invites contemplation. Shut - silence. Moving - in a dance, especially when expressed in one's authenticity and culture. The interpretation becomes personal, and each observer can weave their own narrative, making the experience uniquely intimate.
No surprise we focus so much on lips!
Lips are our time capsules, preserving moments that might otherwise be lost to the relentless march of time. They hold our memories. They have the power to transport us back to a specific moment, evoking feelings as if we were right back there. Lips act as portals to our own histories, and our historys' histories.
Every angle, every choice of color, no make up make up or balmed up-bare lip, contributes to the narrative. They are an art, the essence of all of the spaces we fill pulled together in two single, carefully curated lips.
As we navigate our many spaces - home, work, virtual - let's cherish the moments that we make through what comes out of and goes on our lips.
